Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a HoloLens device?
No physical HoloLens is required. We use the free HoloLens Emulator for all hands-on exercises. Testing on real hardware is recommended for the capstone project.
Do I need Unity experience?
Basic Unity and C# knowledge is required. We cover MRTK 3 and HoloLens-specific concepts from scratch, but assume familiarity with the Unity editor and C# scripting.
What will I build?
You'll build multiple mixed reality applications including spatial UI, hand-tracked interactions, collaborative Mesh experiences, and a complete capstone enterprise application.
Can I get a job in MR development?
Yes, this course provides skills for mixed reality developer, AR/VR engineer, and spatial computing roles at companies like Microsoft, Meta, and enterprise solution providers.
How long is the course access?
You receive lifetime access to all course materials, including future updates on MRTK, HoloLens, and Mesh platform features.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes, you will receive a Certificate of Completion after successfully completing the capstone project and all assessments.
Course Tutor
Dr. Alex Thompson
Dr. Alex Thompson is a Principal Mixed Reality Engineer and former Microsoft HoloLens team lead with over 17 years of experience in spatial computing and immersive technologies. He was a key contributor to HoloLens 2 and Microsoft Mesh at Microsoft, helping define MRTK 3 and the Mesh collaboration platform. Dr. Thompson holds a PhD in Computer Graphics from MIT and has published over 60 papers on mixed reality, computer vision, and 3D user interfaces. He has led enterprise MR deployments for major companies including Boeing, Toyota, and Lockheed Martin, and has trained thousands of developers in mixed reality development. Alex is a frequent speaker at IEEE VR, ISMAR, and Microsoft's Mixed Reality Dev Days conferences.
Throughout this course, Alex will guide you through hands-on HoloLens projects, Mesh collaboration experiences, and the exact techniques used by professional MR developers to build production-grade mixed reality applications.
Course Reviews

Dr. Thompson's insider Microsoft experience is invaluable. The MRTK 3 and Mesh modules are the best I've found. I built my first HoloLens app and landed an MR developer job. Exceptional course!

The spatial anchors and hand tracking modules are outstanding. I deployed an enterprise MR application for industrial training. Dr. Thompson's insights are worth the entire course fee alone.

As a Unity developer transitioning to MR, this course was perfect. The Azure Remote Rendering and Spatial Anchors modules are gold. I now confidently build enterprise MR solutions.

The Microsoft Mesh collaboration module is fantastic. I built a multi-user design review app for my company. The capstone project demonstrated complete enterprise MR development workflow.

PhD-level content with practical enterprise focus. The Azure integration and performance optimization modules are essential. I now lead MR development at my company. Best HoloLens course available!

The hands tracking and eye tracking modules are excellent. I now build intuitive spatial interfaces. The HoloLens Emulator support is perfect for learners without hardware. Highly recommended!
